Writing
Writing is telling short and sweet stories. If the readers are to grasp what I mean, I must understand what my readers want and expect. In the end, research does more good when readers embrace the findings.

The last time you saw a Native person in movies, TV shows, books, or video games, that character very likely donned feather headdresses, buckskin clothing, war paints, and/or held tomahawks, bows, and arrows. One might ask: Aren’t most of these historical depictions as innocent as the Disney movie Pocahontas? Check out my blog post for how these depictions harm Native Americans as well as society as a whole.

This public report focuses on political engagements among Native Americans. This report shows that Native people vote and are politically active and engaged in the democratic process in a variety of ways. However, many feel as though their voices are not being heard and that their needs and priorities are not being addressed. Priorities include improving mental health, caring for tribal elders, and addressing violence against women, children, girls, and LGBTQ2S+ individuals.

This public report focuses on COVID-19's impacts on Native American communities. This report shows that Indigenous households earning less than $45,000 a year were hit harder by the pandemic compared to participants with higher household incomes when it comes to access to PPE and adverse impacts on health, financials, and employment. Individuals living in rural areas and those identifying as transgender or gender nonconforming are also reeling from the detrimental financial and health impacts.
My role: I completed data cleaning and produced all results and data visualizations used in this report. I wrote p. 7-12.
