Frozen in Time: Native Americans = People of the Past?

UW Engage Science 2022, Seattle, WA, May 2022

In this 30-minute talk, I explained the concept and manifestation of the historical stereotype of Native Americans -- which entails depicting Native Americans as outdated figures in the 18th/19th-century context (such as the Disney movie Pocahontas) while omitting any modern representations of them -- via real-world examples and research evidence. This talk is part of a science speaker series in which scientists communicate their work and findings to the non-specialist public in an accessible, engaging, and inclusive way.
